The Lord of the Rings is arguably the best book of all times. Written by English professor and author John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, this incredible story has been read by millions of people around the world. This section will feature the works of J.R.R. Tolkien – possibly the greatest author of all time!

The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit (13 CDs)
J.R.R. Tolkien
HighBridge Company
www.highbridgeaudio.com
ISBN: 1565117077

The Hobbit is my favourite book and I also like The Lord of the Rings trilogy composed of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. The HighBridge Company has published these classic books on 13 CDs.

These dramatized productions of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, which are “the original, fully dramatized, American productions as heard on National Public Radio,” are very impressive. The cast voices are very good and the sound effects are excellent. All you have to do is sit back and listen as Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit, joins 13 dwarves and Gandalf, a wizard, to recapture a mountain, and the treasure that lies there, from a dragon. When you’ve finished this adventure you can journey with Bilbo’s nephew, Frodo, as he sets out to destroy a magic ring that threatens their world.

Recently my wife Lynn and I, along with our young children Gleannan and Liam, listened to The Hobbit on the way to and from the cottage. The long drive allowed us to enjoy all four CDs which made for very entertaining trips. Gleannan and Liam even requested the CDs for their personal CD players so they could listen to this wonderful book again! Tolkien fans will not be disappointed with this box set of audio books.

The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings
ISBN: 0007105029

Wow! Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien and his two masterpieces, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, will be delighted with this exquisite deluxe boxed set of his two most popular works.

Published by HarperCollins, these two hardcover books (in an attractive slipcase) contain numerous illustrations by Alan Lee as well as maps drawn by Tolkien. This edition of The Lord of the Rings was published in 1991. The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy composed of: The Fellowship of the Ring (first published in 1954), The Two Towers (first published in 1954) and The Return of the King (first published in 1955). The Lord of the Rings was first published as a single volume in 1968.

According to the inside cover flap of The Lord of the Rings, “This edition contains fifty full colour illustrations specially commissioned from artist Alan Lee to commemorate the centenary of J. R. R. Tolkien’s birth. It also includes Tolkien’s appendices and maps.”

The Hobbit was first published in 1937. The edition in this boxed set was published in 1997 to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of this classic tale.

This boxed set, while expensive, contains beautiful copies of two of the best books ever written and will be appreciated by serious Tolkien readers.

The Hobbit Limited Edition Collectors’ Box
J. R. R. Tolkien
ISBN: 0007105096

Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien will enjoy this unique assortment of Hobbit items. First published in Great Britain by George Allen & Unwin in 1937, The Hobbit is one of the most beloved stories of all time. This prelude to The Lord of the Rings introduces such incredible characters as Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf and Gollum – to name three.

Included in this collectors’ box is a nice hardcover copy of The Hobbit. Eight postcards featuring Tolkien’s beautiful illustrations are also included in this limited edition package.

A colour map of Wilderland by John Howe that shows Bilbo Baggins’ journey is another nice addition. Accompanying the map is a 23-page booklet by Brian Sibley entitled There and Back Again: The Map of the Hobbit.

While these items themselves make for a nice “Hobbit package” and are certainly worth the retail price, I was pleasantly surprised with a CD of an archive recording from 1952 of J.R.R. Tolkien reading from The Hobbit about Bilbo’s encounter with Gollum. This special CD is approximately a half hour in length.

This limited edition Hobbit set would be appreciated by virtually any fan of Tolkien’s work and it would make an excellent gift for introducing someone to this wonderful author’s books.

J.R.R. Tolkien: The Man Who Created The Lord of the Rings
Michael Coren
ISBN: 077373287X

The Lord of the Rings is arguably the best book ever written. It certainly ranks up there with the best. Its creator was John Ronald Reuel Tolkien who was commonly known as J.R.R. Tolkien.

J.R.R.Tolkien: The Man Who Created The Lord of the Rings is a biography of this great author and professor by Michael Coren. Although short in length at 136 pages, this biography contains considerable information and photographs about Tolkien.

J. R.R. Tolkien was born in South Africa and raised in England. Unfortunately he and his brother were orphaned at an early age. Tolkien’s interest in languages and literature, which he excelled at, led him to the University of Oxford where he was a professor from 1925 until he retired in 1959 at the age of 67.

Besides Tolkien’s life as an Oxford professor, Coren also provides considerable information about Tolkien’s childhood, wife Edith and their four children as well as his books – most notably The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

J.R.R. Tolkien: The Man Who Created The Lord of the Rings is an informative and entertaining book about an interesting man who, quite possibly, is the greatest author of all time!
